COLOR TESTING

In all cases, test patches are strongly recommended. Colors appear paler outside and surface texture changes the appearance of color due to the effects of light and shadow.  Interior colors will also vary dramatically due to natural and electric lighting sources.  Test your exterior color selections by painting sample areas in a couple of locations on the house and check them morning, noon and especially at dusk when daylight becomes more purple and shades of taupe can often look pink.  Utilize our 2 oz. trial size paints to test the colors on and in your home before you paint.

PAINT SHEEN

Use a glossier finish on the trim, molding and accents, and a flat or eggshell finish on the walls and body of your home.  Click here to visit our Sheen Guide.

EXTERIOR COLOR PALETTE

When choosing colors, take into consideration what direction your home faces.  For example, colors will seem warmer if your home faces south and cooler if it faces north.  An effective exterior palette consists of three main colors including body, trim, and accent colors.  You can minimize attention to vents and gutter by painting them the same color as the body of the house or by choosing a trim color that is similar to them.

COMPLETING THE LOOK

To create interest and depth, and in order for your palette to look intentional, a color should always appear at least twice in a room.

SPECIFICATION WRITING

For the property owner/builder: Our sales team will visit your site and prepare professional painting specifications for bidding purposes. This specification will list each type of substrate material to be painted, the surface preparation to be taken, the primer to be used and the type and number of finish coats. At your request we will also contact many quality painting contractors to bid your job.

SUBMITTAL SERVICE

For the contractor: If you have bid and received a painting project our sales team will prepare professional paint product submittals to the architect/owner so they know the high quality products you will use. These submittals will include Product Technical Data Sheets, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as well as color samples of the products that will be used. Submittals are professionally prepared and will be provided in the number of copies to suit your project.
