Voice of Color®-approved latex paints,
Eggshell finish:

Soft Suede 313-3:   one quart

Ivory Tower 313-1 :   one quart
Faux-Finish product:

Clear Blending Glaze: 17-50:  one gallon

Technique for the patina:

First, use a roller to paint the wall in Ivory Tower.

Blend 3 parts Clear Blending Glaze to 1 part Soft Suede.

After dipping a paint brush in the Glaze mix, apply it, tapping gently over the wall with the tip of the brush. (Tip: use an old brush. Older, drier, more “spread out” bristles will achieve a greater effect than a new bristles.)

Tap the surface gently with a cloth in order to gently blend and partially remove some of the Glaze that was applied in Step 3.

The kitchen is one of the rooms in which you probably spend a lot of time. That's why it's important that you feel comfortable in it and enjoy its décor.

No doubt, many of you have kitchens with laminate cupboards. It was in fact trendy for a while to replace those 1970s colonial cupboards with laminate units. What's more, laminate is systematically installed in many newly constructed kitchens.

It may be that those white cupboards strike you as monotonous. Or simply that you crave a change. Replacing your laminate is one option. But it may not be affordable. Besides, it's a lot of work. Painting it, however, is easy, if you follow procedures carefully, and it yields a finish that is resistant and durable.

Here's how you do it!

LAMINATE.

Did you ever think of using paintings and other visual works of art as inspiration for a color scheme?

If there's a painting you especially like, chances are that colors are partly responsible for your attraction to it. That's the first reason art can be a great inspiration for your decorating projects.

And here's another reason. If the artist has put different colors together with harmonious results, you too should be able to successfully use them in your décor.

Here are a few tips for choosing colors from artwork. Work with few colors. As a general rule, you should assign 60% of the available space to one color, called dominant; 30% to another, called intermediate, and 10% to an accent color. Using too many colors in the same room is likely to create confusion rather than harmony.

Keep in mind the potential effects colors may have on your moods. This will help you in deciding what color should be used as dominant, intermediate and accent. To learn about the effects of colors moods, please refer to the Color Psychology section.

Consider the elements of your décor that you don't intend to change, like the floor, for example. Be sure their colors will blend nicely in your scheme.

And remember to have fun!
