Color Testing
In all cases, test patches are strongly recommended. Colors appear paler outside and surface texture changes the appearance of color due to the effects of light and shadow. Interior colors will also vary dramatically due to natural and electric lighting sources. Test your exterior color selections by painting sample areas in a couple of locations on the house and check them morning, noon and especially at dusk when daylight becomes more purple and taupes can often look pink. Utilize our 2 oz. trial size paints to test the colors on and in your home before you paint.
Paint Sheen
Use a glossier finish on the trim, molding and accents, and a flat or eggshell finish on the walls and body of your home. Click here to visit our Sheen Guide.
Exterior Color Palette
When choosing colors, take into consideration what direction your home faces. For example, colors will seem warmer if your home faces south and cooler if it faces north.
An effective exterior palette consists of three main colors including body, trim, and accent colors.
You can minimize attention to vents and gutter by painting them the same color as the body of the house or by choosing a trim color that is similar to them.
Completing the Look
To create interest and depth, and in order for your palette to look intentional, a color should always appear at least twice in a room.
